Emma recently joined PEMCO as Senior Health and Safety Consultant and we’d love all our clients to find out a little more about her.
Why did you join PEMCO?
I joined PEMCO for two reasons. On a personal level I felt that the organisation reflected my own values and level of professional integrity and on a professional level because the organisation also specialised in the three areas I am passionate about, health & safety, mental health & well-being and learning & development.
What do you do at PEMCO?
I deliver bespoke health and safety related solutions, upskilling and support to clients. Everything we do at PEMCO is bespoke to individual client’s needs. No two days are ever the same.
What’s your background/credentials?
I have always worked in the Built Environment. I started my career as a Building Surveyor and also qualified as a Construction Manager. Over the past 20 or so years I have had the benefit of working across a wide range of sectors in the UK and aboard, in Construction, Facilities Management, Health & Safety related positions in the Public, Private, Education and Private Training Provider and Charity sectors. I am a Chartered Construction Manager, Chartered Health & Safety Practitioner, Certified Facilities Manager and qualified Further Education Teacher. I’ve worked for some amazing organisations and for some amazing people, most notably with a social care charity before and throughout the pandemic, the selflessness of people I witnessed there was astounding. Outside of my day job with PEMCO I am a tutor and assessor and also moderate and work as an internal quality assessor.
What are the values that drive you?
Honesty, integrity and kindness.
What is something that people in Health & Safety have to deal with that you want to fix?
I would like the perception that health & safety is ‘an extra’ to be replaced with the realisation that health & safety is ‘part of’ core business and ‘part of’ core business support and isn’t an extra thing to be done. Health & safety is an intrinsic element of ‘doing any task effectively’.
