In recent years, Nido Student have been experiencing rapid growth, often building and opening several new student accommodation facilities each year. As their retained competent advisor, PEMCO are called upon to undertake pre-occupation safety inspections and statutory risk assessments immediately prior to the start of each academic year, effectively signing off each new facility as ‘safe to occupy’.
With construction schedules often going up to the wire, this creates a logistical challenge, as our consultants need to be on site to deliver our professional and essential services at locations across the United Kingdom (from Southampton to Edinburgh) while being in the Republic of Ireland and the Netherlands in the same week. In 2020 the challenge was compounded by the Coronvirus pandemic which placed limits on domestic and international travel.
PEMCO worked hand-in-hand with our team of mobile and highly flexible consultants and locally based associates, along with careful pre-planning and keeping in close communication with each site-based construction project manager, we were able to ensure that were in the right place at the right time.
Many of our consultants are multi-skilled in several property-related safety disciplines, so it is not unusual for us to undertake professional fire risk assessment, Legionella risk assessment and general workplace safety risk assessment during a single site visit.
Due to our ability to scale and rapidly adjust the availability of our professional team of consultants, we were able assist Nido Student to successfully open five brand new facilities in London, Coventry, Cork, and Utrecht within the month of September 2020, while at the same time providing recurring annual visits to 10 other student accommodation facilities across the UK.
